Leonardo Royal Hotel Warsaw, fully powered by renewable energy sources since January this year, has been awarded the prestigious Green Key certification. The eco-label has also been successfully renewed by NYX Hotel Warsaw, as well as Leonardo Boutique Krakow Old Town and Leonardo Boutique Krakow City Center. As a result, all Leonardo Hotels properties operating in Poland now hold the internationally recognised Green Key certification, marking a significant milestone within the group’s global sustainability strategy.
This comprehensive certification across the Polish portfolio reinforces Leonardo Hotels’ commitment to embedding sustainability at the core of its operational and organisational framework.
Leonardo Hotels Group ESG Strategy
Leonardo Hotels continues to implement a robust ESG strategy encompassing more than 100 long-term initiatives. These actions address
- environmental responsibility,
- diversity and inclusion,
- employee wellbeing,
- engagement with local communities,
- and the continuous development of ecological awareness among both guests and staff.
The achievement of Green Key certification across all Polish hotels provides formal, third-party confirmation that these commitments extend well beyond corporate declarations and translate into measurable operational outcomes.
“Green Key is one of the most respected international environmental certifications within the hospitality and tourism industry. Securing this distinction for all our properties demonstrates that sustainability is an integral part of Leonardo Hotels’ organisational culture. It is also a promise made to our guests and employees alike. We remain committed to taking further steps to protect the climate and to contribute to building a more sustainable future,” says Paweł Kummer, Operations Manager at Leonardo Royal Hotel Warsaw.

Sustainable Solutions Implemented Across Leonardo Hotels
For many years, Leonardo Hotels has invested in energy-efficient technologies, reduced single-use plastics, optimised supply chains and food management processes, and strengthened partnerships with regional suppliers.
In 2023, the group introduced a comprehensive monitoring system covering electricity and water consumption, as well as waste generation levels. This advanced tool enables precise measurement, analysis and optimisation of resource usage across properties.
All Leonardo Hotels in Poland are now powered exclusively by renewable energy. From 2026 onwards, Leonardo Royal Hotel Warsaw has been fully supplied with electricity generated by onshore wind farms.
At Leonardo Boutique Krakow Old Town, 100 per cent of the energy consumed in 2025 originated from photovoltaic installations.

The group is also investing in digitalisation, replacing traditional in-room printed materials with QR codes to minimise paper consumption. Furthermore, in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint associated with guest transportation, Leonardo Hotels in Poland offer complimentary public transport tickets to their guests.
Green Key Certification: A Benchmark for Sustainable Hospitality
The international Green Key programme promotes responsible tourism and is awarded only to properties that meet the highest sustainability standards.
In Poland, Green Key certification criteria are rigorously verified by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The assessment process examines energy and water efficiency, waste management, operational innovation and the use of new technologies. It also evaluates cooperation with local communities and initiatives aimed at increasing environmental awareness among guests and employees. D
