Poland Convention Bureau has announced a special collaboration with the renowned European magazine Sustain Europe. Poland takes centre stage in the Summer/Autumn 2025 edition, featured in an extensive 20-page cover story that presents our country as a dynamic, responsible, and future-ready destination for business events. The result is a wide-ranging and inspiring narrative that captures Poland’s consistent and ambitious journey towards a more sustainable future.
Four cities – four strategies, one shared ambition
- Kraków – the first Polish city to be ranked in the Global Destination Sustainability Index. Thanks to its sustainable tourism strategy and pioneering initiatives the city has become a leader in delivering eco-conscious, large-scale events.
- Gdańsk – the city of amber and bicycles has rapidly emerged as one of Europe’s most progressive sustainable destinations. From green public procurement and modern conference infrastructure to certified eco-hotels and restaurants, Gdańsk stands out for its ability to strike a balance between heritage and forward-thinking innovation.
- Łódź – once a major industrial powerhouse, today a vibrant, green-minded metropolis. Łódź is investing in blue-green infrastructure, environmental education and sustainable mobility, and will soon play host to major international events, including Urban Future 2025 and Expo Horticultural 2029.
- Wrocław – the city of bridges and green energy continues to implement ambitious Blue-Green Infrastructure projects, upgrade public spaces, expand renewable energy sources and strengthen its credentials as a GDS-aligned events destination. The “Green Events Wrocław” initiative proves that every conference can be designed with the environment in mind.
Poland – a leader of sustainable MICE transformation
Sustain Europe highlights that Poland’s commitment to sustainability is no longer aspirational – it is tangible and active. From certifications and international initiatives such as Net Zero Carbon Events, GDS-Index, to cross-sector collaboration, Poland is not simply following global trends -it is helping to shape them.

Editor’s Letter
There’s no perfect time for a sustainability agenda; only the time we have. And that time, in Europe at least, is now. This edition of Sustain Europe was shaped during a moment of political drift and environmental acceleration. Climate goals are being walked back. Extreme weather is accelerating. The European Green Deal, once hailed as the EU’s most ambitious policy framework, now feels like it’s being tested on all fronts: particularly in a time of shifting agendas and uncertain alliances. But as we’ve seen time and again, the most important work often happens in the places and people that don’t make the headlines.
This edition reflects the local leadership and quiet determination that keep the transition alive. Our cover story journeys to Poland, to one of the continent’s most underestimated green transitions. Here, in cities like Gdańsk, Kraków, Łódź and Wrocław, climate goals are being embedded into architecture, tourism, business events and governance. For a country still grappling with coal’s legacy, the shift is real, and worth watching. …..
…….. Yours in sustainability, Michael Hajijou.
