The Polish Membrane Society (Polskie Towarzystwo Membranowe) has successfully secured the bid to host the European EUROMEMBRANE conference in Poland. The event will be held from 5 to 9 September 2027 in Gdańsk. PTMem’s bid was supported from the start by PCO Symposium Cracoviense, certified by the PTO Poland Convention Bureau, which will manage the logistics for the conference.
EUROMEMBRANE Conference overview
EUROMEMBRANE is an international conference dedicated to membrane science and technology. It brings together researchers, engineers, and specialists from around the globe, summarising the latest advancements in membrane technologies, including their development and applications in fields such as water treatment, desalination, gas separation, and biotechnology. The EUROMEMBRANE conference allows experts to exchange knowledge, present cutting-edge research, and network with peers worldwide.
The event is organised by the European Membrane Society (EMS, a non-profit international organisation aimed at facilitating collaboration between scientists and engineers in the field of synthetic membranes and membrane processes. EMS membership reflects global expertise, encompassing over 600 professionals from around 50 countries. This diversity highlights the Society’s commitment to international cooperation and knowledge exchange in membrane technology.
EUROMEMBRANE in Gdansk, Poland
The EUROMEMBRANE conference is held every three years, attracting 700-900 participants. It has never been hosted in Poland before. Discussions about bringing the event to Poland began as early as 2019, but due to the pandemic, the bid was postponed until 2021, when an application was submitted for the 2024 edition. Poland lost to the Czech Republic, and the 2024 conference was held in Prague. The next opportunity arose in July 2024, and this time, Gdańsk was selected as the host city. The official winner was announced after this year’s EUROMEMBRANE conference.
The bid was submitted by the Polish Membrane Society in collaboration with the Warsaw University of Technology, with the support of Symposium Cracoviense.
Professor Maciej Szwast from Warsaw University of Technology will chair the Local Organising Committee for the EUROMEMBRANE 2027 conference, while Professor Wojciech Kujawski from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, a Polish Congress Ambassador, will chair the Scientific Committee. The bid also included a letter of support from Rafał Szmytke, President of the Polish Tourism Organisation.
